The pattern shape engraved on the gravure printing roll is one of the most important factors influencing ink transfer. This study focuses on the relations between dot geometry engraved on gravure printing roll and the ink transfer during the gravure printing process. The influence of dot width on printed patterns will be demonstrated. Results reveal that as the width of a dot on the printing roll increases, the ink transfer rate also increases. But over a certain size of width, surface uniformity began to recede. Therefore, proper dot geometry on the printing roll should be decided to guarantee good printing quality according to printing conditions and expected performance of the electronic devices.
A new rotary gravure-offset printing unit is constructed by paralleling a gravure plate cylinder, a blanket cylinder and a impression roller. A Muti-Unit Gravure-Offset Printing Press(MUGOP) equipped with a series of the 3 printing units is utilized for roll-to-roll fine printing. Its core technology is precise over-piling printing of fine patterns. The severe problems of ‘slurring’ and ‘doubling’ in typical offset printing are unavoidable, which can be eliminated by applying a soft pad-type blanket cylinder and the unique ‘true rolling’ technique. Nip pressure between the blanket cylinder and the plate cylinder is measured by the constant pressure control system which equipped with load cells attached on the cylinders’ axes. The running circumference of the blanket cylinder is increased to reach the same circumference of the plate cylinder as the pressure increasing, so that the specifications of the blanket cylinder is determined by the relationships of its shore hardness, diameter and nip pressure. When a softer blanket is used, a blanket cylinder of smaller diameter could give higher nip pressure. Realization of the true rolling technique on the MUGOP makes multilayer printing possible as well as fine printing in printed electronics.
Recently, there are many issues about R2R printing technique for mass production of electronic devices. Among the various Roll-to-roll based printing techniques such as gravure, off-set, flexo and so on, “Gravure off-set printing technique” has an advantage of higher printing resolution. The printing unit of gravure off-set printing technique usually consists of plate roll, blanket roll and impressure roll whose. Linear velocities should be synchronized each other for fine pattern printing. However, roller’s manufacturing error and printing variations such as pringting pressure, printing speed, roll stroke and so on actually affected their synchronization anf thus the quality of fine fattern. In this paper, we analyzed the effective of synchronization error on printing quality. Also, this paper reviews the relative motion with each roll. And, this paper studys the synchronization error about its generation problem.
Ink transfer process is very important to determine quality of printed pattern, therefore its mechanism should be understood to control printing quality. Although there have been many attempts to understand ink transfer mechanism by numerical simulation and experimental studies, their model was too much simple to model realistic printing process and our understanding is not enough yet. In this paper we designed ink transfer visualization system to present flow visualization of ink transfer process for gravure offset printing. We considered rotational effect of blanket roll which is related with printing speed and used non-Newtonian fluid as working fluid such as Ag paste. For printing unit, cantilever-type blanket roll is used for convenient visualization of ink transfer. Serial images were captured continuously by using highspeed CMOS camera and long range microscope. We investigated the effects of various design parameters such as printing speed and pattern angle on the ink transfer process. We found more stretched ink filament for non-Newtonian fluid than Newtonian fluid. As increasing printing speed, length of stretched ink filament and height of break-up point are also increased. We also compared ink transfer process between CD and MD pattern and its relationship with ink transfer mechanism.
Roll-to-roll process is an emerging mass production method for printed and flexible electronics such as touch screen panel, RFID tag, thin film solar cell, and flexible display due to its high throughput. High precision in printing and coating is required to apply functional materials onto substrate. For such reason, every part of the roll-to-roll equipment needs to be precisely fabricated and to retain its precision under regular operation. In this article, the precision of cantilever type idler roller and a novel method to mitigate its deflection under web tension loading are discussed and the method is verified using both the numerical and the experimental works. The proposed method improves the structural rigidity of cantilever type roller whose advantages, such as low capital cost and high web path configurability, are maintained.
The recording density of HDD is increasing in ratio of 100% each year. Because the increasing of recording density requires the feature of high rotation, fixation and low-noise, fluid hydrodynamic bearing(FDB) has been paid attention to overcome a limitation in ball bearing. Most of researches related to improving performance of FDB have been studied in Japan which has 80% more market share of HDD spindle motor assembly. Main subject of studies are about for the design of the groove shape, manufacturing process of fluid dynamic bearing, performance evaluation and measurement. In HDD, non-repeatable runout(NRRO) is most important parameter which determines the performance of HDD spindle system because NRRO is unpredictable that cannot be compensated in head/slider servo system. In this study, performance evaluation system can measure dynamic behaviors were designed and methodology for calculating imbalance, RRO, and NRRO were proposed.
There have been many researches about SUGV (Small Unmanned Ground Vehicle) mechanism regarding off-road mobility and obstacle negotiation. This paper introduces an analysis of geometry parameters to enhance the vertical obstacle negotiation ability for the SUGV. Moreover, this paper proposes an anti-shock structure analysis of wheels to protect the main body of the SUGV when it falls off a vertical obstacle. Major system geometry parameters will be determined under certain constraints. The constraints and optimization problem for maximizing the ability of vertical obstacle negotiation will be presented and discussed. Dynamic simulation results and experiments with manufactured platform will also be presented to validate the analysis. Several types of wheel materials and structures will be compared to determine the best anti-shock wheel design through FEM (Finite Element Method) simulations.
Not all line or point features capable of being extracted by sonar sensors from cluttered home environments are useful for simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) due to their ambiguity because it is difficult to determine the correspondence of line or point features with previously registered feature. Confused line and point features in cluttered environments leads to poor SLAM performance. We introduce a sonar feature structure suitable for a cluttered environment and the extended Kalman filter (EKF)-based SLAM scheme. The reliable line feature is expressed by its end points and engaged togather in EKF SLAM to overcome the geometric limits and maintain the map consistency. Experimental results demonstrate the validity and robustness of the proposed method.
A control system for stabilizing a small robot or inverted pendulum using twisted gyro wheel is proposed. Conventional stabilizer using inertial wheel employs action-reaction force/torque to control a pendulum, which can generate relatively small torque and short period of output. In this paper, a novel actuation method using twisted gyro torque in 3-dimentional space was proposed to stabilizing a pendulum by twisting the assembly including a rotating gyro wheel. In addition, two special control functions for this type of twisted gyro wheel were designed. One is the function of self-adjusting the mass center of the robot and the other is the torque reloading configuration for continuous torque generation. The proposed system was verified by experimental result and simulation. The designed twisted gyro wheel control system can be easily packed in a small size module and installed in a humanoid robot or inverted pendulum type mechanism.
For side airbag, the pipe type inflators have been wide used while the disk type inflators have been used for front airbag. For helping to prevent injury and death the airbag inflator system should be design with great care. The present study deal with optimizing the design of side airbag inflator by finite element analysis and design of experiment method. An optimization process was integrated to determine the optimum design variable values related to the side airbag inflator. Free shape optimization method has been carried out to find a optimal shape on an side airbag inflator model. Optimization of the air bag inflator was successfully developed using Sharpe optimization was carried out to find a new geometry. The improved results compared to the base design specification were achieved from design of experiment and optimization.
Statistical optimum methodology of table of orthogonal array, ANOM, ANOVA and RSM are applied to formulate optimum allocation design with design variables. It can be minimized average SPL of control volume, the objective function in closed system by optimal allocated positions of absorbing material. Structural natural frequency and acoustic natural frequency of cavity are analyzed by FEM and BEM in the closed system. Using BEM, average SPL of specific control volume is calculated according to the condition before using absorbing material and after using it. It is shown that noise is reduced by 5.02㏈RMS by absorbing material located at optimal position and minimum 1.83㏈RMS and maximum 3.47㏈RMS by the table of orthogonal array.
In this study, fatigue life is evaluated by comparing with lighter car body through the experiment on SPR joints. An experimental activity on sheet metal samples of Aluminum 5J32 and Steel SPRC440 has been conducted to achieve better understanding of the process. In addition, SPR joint used less than the existing Spot Welding improves joint strength and fatigue life is evaluated by using SPR and adhesive joining Hybrid. Joining(bonding) strength and fatigue life on SPR and Hybrid (SPR + adhesive) are evaluated throughout the experiment. With joining strength than 20 % of the aluminum material, dissimilar materials has improved over 2 times as large as the strength In case of dissimilar materials, the fatigue life of aluminum is increased by 1.6 to 2.5 times as large as the life.
The purpose of this study is to establish the analysis method for prediction of temperature during cryogenic heat treatment. Experimental cryogenic heat treatment is conducted to observe the phenomena such as boiling of fluid, ice layer on the material surface and to measure the temperature distribution of Al6061 tube. The CFD analysis considering the observed phenomena in the experiment is performed to predict the temperature distribution and convection heat transfer coefficient at each stage of cryogenic heat treatment, in which the boiling of fluid is considered as the multi-phase condition of vapour and liquid. The formation of ice layer on the tube surface is also modeled between material and fluid. The predicted results are in good agreement with the experimental ones. From the results, it is shown that the analysis method can predict the temperature distribution and convection heat transfer coefficient during cryogenic heat treatment.
In this paper, the dielectric barrier discharge plasma generator has been studied for producing of the high concentration ozone gas. Proposed plasma generator has the structure of extremely narrow discharge air gap(0.15㎜) in order to realize the high electric field discharge. We investigate the performance of the dielectric barrier discharge plasma generator experimentally and the results show that the generator has very high ozone concentration characteristics of 13.7[wt%/O₂] at the oxygen flow rate of 1[ℓ/min] of each discharge cell. So, we confirmed that the proposed plasma generator is suitable for the high concentration ozone production facility of the eco-friendly ozone functional water cleaning system in the electronic components cleaning process.
