In a pilot natural super-hydrophobic surfaces study, a super-hydrophobic surface was made by coating, etching, laser ablation, chemical vapor deposition and lithography. In this study, cone-shaped periodic micro and nano-structures were constructed on a silica surface with femtosecond and picosecond laser, and the period of micro-structures between cone shape patterns was increased with 10 μm intervals. The contact angle and image of the super-hydrophobic surface were analysed and the cone (Aspect-ratio 1.27) shape model with micro-protrusion structure similar to the surface of the lotus leaf was made to measure the contact angle. To analyse the differences in the contact angles between the cone shapes and heights of the micro-protrusion, different samples with cone (Aspect-ratio 1.27), sphere (Aspect-ratio 1.00) shapes were made through laser micro-machining technology. To mimick the natural lotus leaves, the optimum condition was a cone shape. Samples of PDMS with different shapes and mixed micro/nano-structures were fabricated with a PDMS mold insert. The largest contact angle was measured at 170.42° which is similar to the contact angle of the lotus leaf. This mold insert could be used repeatedly. The molding process is advantageous for large areas and mass production.

A polypropylene film was ablated using a CO₂ laser, Ti-sapphire femtosecond laser, and UV nanosecond laser. For modified atmosphere packaging, polypropylene films were ablated by laser pulse with different pulse energies and measured on an optical microscope. Also, we observed the shelf life of a banana contained within packaging of a breathable zipper bag. As a result, we have demonstrated that the breathable film can efficiently extend the shelf life of respiring foods, particularly fresh fruits and vegetables. The development of breathable film laser microfabrication system will more useful for industrial applications.
The shape of combustion nozzles varies from large diameter to small diameter ones. In the case of small nozzle, nozzle exit can be easily winkled or damaged in machining process. Femtosecond laser is a micro machining technology that is able to drill a small nozzle without damaging the nozzle exit. In this experiment, a small nozzle of combustion was fabricated by using a femtosecond laser. The fabricated nozzle of combustion provided a very small nozzle diameter with clean nozzle exit without wrinkling or collateral damage.
Femto-second laser ablation with the various feed velocities of the Invar alloy and the micro surface milling for the processing condition were studied. We used a regenerative amplified Ti:sapphire laser with a 1㎑ repetition rate, 184fs pulse duration time and 785㎚ wavelength. Femto-second laser pulse was irradiated on the Invar alloy with the air blowing at the condition of various laser peak powers and feed velocities. An ablation characteristic according to feed velocity of the Invar alloy was appeared as the non-linear type at different zone of energy fluence. The micro surface milling of the Invar alloy using a mapping method was investigated. The optimal condition of micro surface milling was laser peak power of 22.8㎽, feed velocity of 1 ㎜/s, beam gap of 1 ㎛. With the optimal processing condition, the fine rectangular shape without burr and thermal damage was achieved. Using the femto-second laser system, it demonstrates excellent tool for micro surface milling of the Invar alloy without heat effects and poor edge.
Femtosecond laser ablation of the Invar alloy and hole drilling for a shadow mask are studied. We used a regenerative amplified Ti-sapphire laser with a 1㎑ repetition rate, 184fs pulse duration and 785㎚ wavelength. Femtosecond laser pulse was irradiated on the Invar alloy with air blowing at the condition of various laser peak power. An ablation characteristic of the Invar alloy was appeared non-linear at 125J/㎠ of energy fluence. For the application to a shadow mask, the hole drilling of the Invar alloy with the cross section of a trapezoidal shape was investigated. The ablated micro-holes were characterized using an atomic force microscopy(AFM). The optimal condition of hole pattern for a shadow mask was 4.urn z-axis feed rate, 0.2㎜/s circular velocity, 26.4μJ laser peak power. With the optimal processing condition, the fine circular hole shape without burr and thermal damage was achieved. Using the femtoseocnd laser system, it demonstrates excellent tool for the Invar alloy micro-hole drilling without heat effects and poor edge.
